Cheese Scones

Easy and Apple-y

The ingredients:
  • 225g self raising flour
  • 50g butter (plain or salted)
  • 1 apple
  • 150ml milk or water
  • Pinch ground cinnamon
  • More flour
Optional Ingredients
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Egg
Equipment
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Weighing scales
  • Sieve (optional)
  • Knife
  • Grater (optional)
  • Baking tray
  • Board
  • Grease-proof paper
Procedure:
  1. Heat fan assisted oven to 473 K.
  2. Prepare baking tray, use grease-proof baking paper with a small amount of butter.
  3. Add flour to mixing bowl, can use a sieve here.
  4. Rub in the butter. (Use knife to divide the butter into small pieces and rub in with finger and thumb).
  5. Cut apple into small cubes, or grate and add to the mixture.
  6. Add milk or water to make a soft dough by mixing with hands, add more flour to help make the dough and allow handling.
  7. Pat / roll dough into a 160 mm diameter x 30 mm deep cylinder.
  8. Divide with knife into 8 equal wedges, can apply flour to the knife.
  9. Brush egg or milk on the tops of the scones, can use hands to do this - full egg wont be used you need to find something else to make with it.
  10. Place scones in the preheated oven for 1200 seconds (20 mins).
