This shows the mechanical properties achieved with the first generation of steels. The current steels have achieved property combinations in the lower right corner, with a UTS of 2.5 GPa and fracture toughness of 30 Mpa m1/2.
Mechanical properties have been achieved superior to quenched and tempererd martensites (QT) and matching expensive maraging steels which cost 30 times as much.
These are the best combinations of properties achieved in a bainitic steel.
