Iron Giant

Iron giant is a good movie, all about a war machine which just wants to get along. Good movie, although personally I would have liked to know more about the composition used to make the iron giant. Military applications have demanding requirements for materials because improvements can be translated into large advantages against the opposition. The iron giant features self repairing technology, and construction from bolts and plates, suggest very strongs steels are used which are difficult to weld.

This animated film starts when a young boy befriends the steel robot he finds near his home. The story is based on The Iron Man (1968) by poet Ted Hughes. Set in the atmosphere of distrust and xenophobia of the cold war just after the Russians sucess of Sputnik, the Iron Giant is seemingly an amnesiac alien robot trying to make sense of his place in the world. The young boy helps to hide the Iron Man from the authorities, and adventure ensues. The film is by Warner Brothers, the execution is excellent, reminisent of the films by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.
